The core of Troy Community Farm is our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). In a time when food travels an average of 1300 miles to reach our tables, Troy Community Farm offers Madison residents the opportunity to enjoy the freshness and flavor of vegetables grown in their own backyard.

2013 Farm CrewThrough CSA, members learn to enjoy the quality and appreciate the quirks of Wisconsin seasonal food production. The quality comes from our ability to harvest at the peak of maturity and deliver quickly to our members. But the quirks of our climate very much dictate which vegetables will be available when. While the peas are ripening, their flavor and freshness are unparalleled; but once the temperature heats up, those sweeties are gone until next year. CSA members have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of vegetables over the season while knowing there will be plenty of the favorites like lettuce, broccoli, and tomatoes.

Troy Community Farm CSA is unique in a number of ways. Because we are in the city, members come to Troy Gardens each week to choose and pack their own vegetables from the farm-stand-style pickup. Our farmers attend every pickup and are available to answer members’ questions about vegetable storage and preparation. While at the farm, members can also visit the CSA garden where u-pick herbs and flowers are included in every share. While out and about, the kids love to visit the chickens in the Kids’ Garden or look for butterflies in the prairie.

One of our CSA shares.Since we want our members to be able to eat from the farm for as much of the year as possible, we also offer bulk crops for canning, freezing, drying, or winter storage. All our members have the opportunity to order extra tomatoes, beans, broccoli, carrots, squash, potatoes, onions, and other crops when they are abundant and at their peak. All bulk orders are delivered through the farm stand at the same time as the CSA pickup.

Our weekly newsletter Urban Roots includes stories from the farm, details about the vegetable share, recipes, and information about a wide range of events at Troy Gardens including our annual Savor the Summer Festival. We often hear that our newsletter is one of the best features of our CSA!

Our pickup site at Troy Gardens in the 500 block of Troy Drive. Pickups are Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:30 PM, starting June 5 and ending October 23.  Pre-packed shares will be available at MATC and one westside site (see brochure for details) on Fridays.
